Pedare Christian College
Golden Grove, South Australia

Pedare Christian College is an independent school located in the northeast of Adelaide. In collaboration with the information technology course coordinator, ElectronicallyE developed an Australia curriculum aligned course on the internet of things (IoT) technology LoRaWAN for year 11 and 12 information technology students.LoRaWAN is a long-range wireless communication technology, enabling battery powered sensors to be deployed throughout an area. These sensors collect live, localised data, accessible via the internet.Students identify existing challenges in the school community and design, develop and deploy sensor-based solutions. This provides students practical and interactive learning opportunities that deliver tangible value.Solutions developed include classroom light and oxygen level detection to identify trends in student attentiveness and temperature and humidity monitoring in the greenhouse to improve growing conditions.Sensor data is shared with other learning areas to support assessments and activities that are uniquely localised, allowing students to identify connections between their studies and the application of technology in society and industry.

Marcus Oldham College
Geelong, Victoria

Marcus Oldham College is a private regional tertiary college in the outskirts of Geelong, Victoria delivering innovative agriculture and agribusiness education programs.Leveraging the capabilities of the free, publicly accessible City of Geelong LoRaWAN network, ElectronicallyE resourced and deployed soil moisture and temperature sensors at student trial sites on the College's 200-hectare campus.ElectronicallyE developed a visualisation of sensor data alongside Bureau of Meteorology content, now displayed in the foyer of the College's newly built lecture and study centre. Live environmental data is saved to spreadsheets and made accessible to staff and students for use in practical teachings and assessments. The sensors provide immediate insight into environmental conditions, enabling students to make data driven decisions about crop nutrition, protection, and yield.

Loxton Waikerie Regional Council
Regional South Australia

The Riverland Smart Agriculture Project (RSAP) is a federally funded project as part of the Murray Darling Basin Economic Development Program. The RSAP was delivered by the Loxton Waikerie Regional Council across the Loxton Waikerie, Renmark Paringa, and Berri Barmera council districts. The half-million-dollar project delivered a region wide internet of things (IoT) LoRaWAN network to support communities in water management and recovery. The free, publicly accessible network enables community deployment and use of environment sensors. These sensors collect localised data to support in effective resource utilisation and evidence-based decision making. The project requirements demanded a solution which allowed flexibility in the technology, and data use to generate valuable and actionable insights. This required an internally managed solution. Upskilling of staff in IoT and development of supporting materials were necessary if internal management was to succeed.ElectronicallyE delivered consultancy and training services to the District Council of Loxton Waikerie and developed a future management plan. The plan provides a comprehensive but digestible overview of the technology and presents recommendations on procurement, troubleshooting and network use to support sustainable, ongoing management.
